2.5-days-old CM: An emotional BS Yeddyurappa resigns, before floor test
In a major blow to the Bharatiya Janata Party, newly sworn-in Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa resigned ahead of the floor test at the Vidhan Soudha in Bengaluru on Saturday. In the recently concluded Karnataka elections, the BJP secured 104 seats out of 222, falling short of 111 required to form a government. The Supreme Court ordered on Friday that Yeddyurappa appear for a floor test.

BS Yeddyurappa slammed Congress for its inefficiency in Karnataka for the last five years. He said the party was not able to provide clean water, and farmers died under the Congress's watch. Calling the Congress-JD(S) alliance an opportunistic one, Yeddyurappa thanked people of Karnataka for making BJP the single largest party. He said he failed to get numbers.

At the Karnataka assembly, the Congress and JD(S) leaders were seen smiling and showing the victory sign. Next to HD Kumaraswamy stood DK Shivakumar, who had earlier claimed BSY will resign. After the elections, Congress and JD(S) went into a post-poll alliance and claimed they had 117 MLAs, way above the required number to form the government. After the week-long drama, Congress can now relax.
