#MadhyaPradeshElections: After discussions, Indira's 'third' son Kamal Nath becomes CM
Two days after the nail-biting contest between Congress and BJP at assembly elections of Madhya Pradesh, the winning grand old party has picked Kamal Nath as the new Chief Minister of the central state. Late Thursday night, after a string of meetings, Congress announced the 72-year-old senior leader, an MP from Chhindwara, will sit on CM chair. He will be the 18th CM of the state.
Chhindwara has sent Nath to Lok Sabha nine times
Nath is one of the most senior leaders of the Congress in the Parliament and has been elected from Chhindwara nine times. He was the president of MP Congress and is credited for the party's comeback in the state after sitting in opposition for 15 years. He has also served as Minister of Urban Development when UPA was in power.
On December 23, Indira Gandhi handed Chhindwara to me: Nath
The CM-designate, who could take oath on December 17, was greeted by well-wishers in Bhopal late evening. An ecstatic Nath said it was on December 13 that former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi gave him the reins of Chhindwara. She famously referred to him as her 'third' son. He also thanked Jyotiraditya Scindia, another contender for the top post, for lending his support.
We will fulfill all promises of manifesto: Nath
The decision kept everyone on hooks
The battle for the CM seat was no less tense than the results of polls. The young versus experienced friction led to many meetings among the top brass of the party. At 11 PM too, Congress President Rahul Gandhi chaired a meeting. As mediapersons and people of MP waited for the announcement, Scindia tweeted they were here to serve the citizens of the state.

MP done, now all eyes on Rajasthan
While Congress managed to end the selection process in one state, all eyes are now turned towards Rajasthan. The fight in the desert state between Sachin Pilot, whose work on ground drove the party to victory, and Ashok Gehlot, a two-time CM is not nearing an end. In fact, Pilot's supporters blocked a road in Karauli after which he appealed them to stay calm.
