KC Tyagi resigns as JD(U) spokesperson
Senior Janata Dal (United) leader KC Tyagi has resigned from his position as the party's national spokesperson, citing "personal reasons." The announcement was made in a letter to the party leadership, currently led by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. However, internal sources suggest that his resignation may be due to dissatisfaction within the leadership over his recent public statements on various issues, according to India Today.
Rajiv Ranjan Prasad to replace Tyagi
Following Tyagi's resignation, the party has appointed Rajiv Ranjan Prasad as the new national spokesperson, party general secretary Afaq Ahmed Khan said. Party insiders said that Tyagi's resignation was triggered by recent public statements that deviated from the official party line. These included comments on sensitive issues such as the Israel-Palestine conflict and the lateral entry controversy. He had publicly called for a cessation of arms supplies to Israel and declared India's support for peace and a ceasefire in Gaza.
Tyagi's statements caused internal discord in JD(U)
Tyagi reportedly made these statements without consulting with party leaders, leading to rumors of internal discord within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). His comments on the Supreme Court's decision regarding SC/ST and lateral entry jobs under UPSC were also cited as examples of statements made without prior discussion within the party.
Tyagi's political career and positions within JD(U)
Tyagi has had a significant political career within the JD(U), including serving as a Rajya Sabha member representing Bihar. He also held the position of chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on industry. Before his tenure in the Rajya Sabha, Tyagi was a member of the ninth Lok Sabha and served as chairman of both the committee on papers laid on the table and central warehousing corporation.
