Jaya Prada: News
Jaya Prada, born on April 3, 1962, in Andhra Pradesh, is an Indian actor-turned-politician who belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She was a popular actor in Bollywood and the Telugu film industry between the late-1970s and early-1990s. Prada forayed into politics in 1994 when she joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) after its founder, late actor-politician NT Rama Rao, invited her. In 1996, she was nominated to represent Andhra Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha. However, she quit TDP in 2004 after differences with the leadership and joined the Mulayam Singh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party (SP), which led her to a Lok Sabha seat from Rampur in 2004; Prada was re-elected from this constituency in 2009, too. However, she was expelled from the SP in 2010 due to anti-party activities. She joined Amar Singh and formed her own party, Rashtriya Lok Manch, in 2011 which didn't manage to garner much attention. She later joined the Rashtriya Lok Dal and contested the Lok Sabha elections in 2014, which she eventually lost. Then, Prada finally joined hands with the BJP in 2019 and contested the Lok Sabha elections from Rampur again but was defeated by the SP's Azam Khan.
