Jarnail Singh was an Indian journalist and politician who was a member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). He represented the Rajouri Garden constituency as a member of the Delhi Legislative Assembly until January 6, 2017. Born in 1973, Singh completed his education at the YMCA Institute for Media Studies and Information Technology. He started his journalistic career, working as a reporter at Amar Ujala. Following this, he worked as a correspondent for Dainik Jagran for more than a decade. In 2009, Singh threw a shoe at Home Minister P. Chidambaram during a press conference that gained him media attention. He performed the act as he was disappointed with Chidambaram’s party, the Indian National Congress for giving poll tickets to the leaders who were involved in initiating the 1984 anti-Sikh pogrom. He lost the 2014 general elections to BJP’s Pravesh Verma by a margin of 268,586 votes. However, he won the 2015 Delhi Assembly elections from the Rajouri Garden constituency. In 2021, Singh died due to COVID-19.
