'Jail wale to bail wale CM...': BJP demands Kejriwal's resignation
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) called for Arvind Kejriwal's immediate resignation as Delhi Chief Minister on moral grounds following his bail in the Delhi excise policy case on Friday. "The Supreme Court has shown the mirror to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and granted him conditional bail," BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said at a press conference. He added, "The Delhi CM should immediately resign... Arvind Kejriwal has become a bail wale CM from jail wale CM."
'Bhrastachar yukt...': What Bhatia said
"However, Arvind Kejriwal won't do it because there's not even an iota of morality left in him. Arvind Kejriwal has got conditional bail and despite that he has been sitting on a Constitutional post. It will not be wrong to say 'bhrastachar yukt, CM abhyukt'," the BJP national spokesperson added. Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva also joined in the criticism of the Aam Aadmi Party, stating that "One more member, Arvind Kejriwal, is now added to AAP's 'Zamaanti Club.'"

The Delhi leader added, "AAP leaders should read the judgment of Supreme Court very carefully. The court has clearly said that the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal was completely legal." A two-judge SC bench—comprising Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan—granted relief to Kejriwal on a bail bond of ₹10 lakh, and two sureties, setting the stage for his release from jail. The court reserved its decision on September 5 after hearing arguments from Kejriwal's counsel and the Central Bureau of Investigation.
'Victory of truth...': AAP celebrates SC's verdict
Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party welcomed the Supreme Court decision granting bail to Kejriwal, and called it the "victory of truth". After the court's verdict, Kejriwal's wife, Sunita Kejriwal, congratulated the AAP workers and also hoped for the release of other arrested leaders of the party. Delhi's former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that "truth has won in the fight against lies and conspiracies."
Kejriwal fifth opposition leader to be released from jail
Notably, Kejriwal has become the fifth, and most prominent, opposition leader to be released after arrest in this case. Others freed include his former deputy Sisodia, AAP MP Sanjay Singh, Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader K Kavitha, and AAP leader Durgesh Pathak. While granting Kejriwal bail, Justice Bhuyan said, "Bail is the rule...jail an exception. All courts must ensure...process of trial doesn't become a form of punishment in itself."
