AIADMK removes Dhinakaran as deputy general secretary
In what could signal the beginning of an amicable resolution between the two warring factions of the AIADMK, the Edappadi Palanisamy-led camp declared as invalid the appointment of TTV Dhinakaran as party general secretary. The office bearers he appointed will also lose their posts. Expulsion of Dhinakaran and his aunt VK Sasikala, General Secretary, was a condition for merger by the O Panneerselvam camp.
What worked against Dhinakaran?
According to AIADMK bylaws, only those who had been a member for five consecutive years can hold posts. But Dhinakaran was expelled in December 2011, and was readmitted in February. Members noted Dhinakaran's name wasn't on the list of office bearers appointed by Jayalalithaa and submitted to the EC. Moreover, the appointment of General Secretary Sasikala, who appointed him, is also under investigation.
Is this heading towards an amicable settlement?
According to sources, "Already the two factions are holding talks and arrived at an agreement by which EPS will continue as CM while OPS will head the party." Earlier, Palaniswamy had said, "I expect to see (the delayed merger) soon."
