CBI judge: Got phone calls from Lalu Prasad's men
In a shocking claim, special CBI judge Shivpal Singh said that he "got phone calls from Lalu's men." Singh was the judge who convicted RJD chief Lalu Yadav in the fodder scam. Despite hinting that he faced pressure from Lalu's aides, Singh stopped short of mentioning the exact names of the people who called him. Incidentally, Lalu's sentencing has again been postponed till Friday.
What is the fodder scam?
The fodder scam relates to 64 cases, wherein Rs. 950cr were systematically embezzled by bureaucrats/politicians in the name of purchasing livestock feed. In December, CBI special court convicted the former CM with 15 others. Since then, Lalu is lodged in Ranchi's Birsa Munda Central Jail.
If these claims are true, what does it imply?
Since Lalu's conviction, RJD has been mired in controversies. Earlier, three party-men, including Lalu's son Tejaswi Yadav were found guilty of contempt of court. Will these explosive claims by Singh add to RJD's troubles? Interestingly, Singh has been strict with Lalu from the beginning. When Lalu sought exemption from personal appearance, his request was sternly declined. How will Singh react to the latest threats?
