Sunita asked to meet Kejriwal through glass window: Sanjay Singh
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh claimed on Saturday that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was denied permission for an in-person meeting with his wife Sunita. He said they were only allowed to meet through a glass window. Kejriwal is currently in Tihar Jail under judicial custody. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested him last month in connection with a money laundering case linked to the Delhi liquor policy.
Claims of strategy to undermine Kejriwal's spirit
Addressing a press conference in Delhi, Singh said the treatment of Kejriwal is part of a larger strategy to undermine his spirit. He said that "even dreaded criminals are allowed to have meetings in their barracks." He pointed out that prison regulations typically allow inmates to meet visitors directly, but in Kejriwal's case, this privilege has been denied. Singh perceives this as an attempt to demoralize and discourage the Delhi chief minister.
Kejriwal, Bhagwant Mann meeting also canceled at last minute: Singh
Singh further stated that a meeting between Kejriwal and his Punjab counterpart, Bhagwant Mann, was canceled at the last minute. "Mann and Kejriwal's physical meeting was also denied by Tihar Jail authorities. We have been told that the two Chief Ministers will have to meet through the window as well." "Why are you so afraid of Arvind Kejriwal?" he asked.
Appeal for respect of Kejriwal's rights
"I would request PM Modi and home minister Amit Shah not to take away the rights of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, which are guaranteed constitutionally, democratically, legally and under the prison rules. Don't try to be a dictator," he added. Singh, who was also arrested in the same case last year, was recently released on bail. Although Singh is not an accused in the excise scam case, the ED accused him of laundering "proceeds of crime" from the alleged scam.
Kejriwal's current status
Meanwhile, Kejriwal has moved the Supreme Court against his arrest by the ED. The apex court is scheduled to hear his case on Monday. The ED took Kejriwal into custody on March 21, just hours after the high court denied him protection from coercive action by the federal anti-money laundering agency. Kejriwal will remain in judicial custody until April 15.
