If you want a government job in India, you should at least be a graduate. But if you're going to become a politician, people's support is more than enough. However, India still has some highly-educated politicians. Hidden from the social media spotlight, away from the likes of Tharoor, some of these politicians never got the attention they deserve. Let's find out who they are.
Baijayant Panda, Four time Member of Parliament
'Jay' Panda who recently quit the Orissa's Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is a four-time member of parliament, serving his second term as Lok Sabha MP. Panda, son of renowned Odia industrialist Bansidhar Panda, joined active politics in 1997, along with incumbent CM Naveen Patnaik. Panda has a dual degree in Engineering and Management in Communications from the Michigan Technological University, USA.
Jyotiraditya Scindia, Member of Parliament
Jyotiraditya Scindia, a close associate of Rahul Gandhi, is a four-time LS member from Guna, Madhya Pradesh. Scindia served as the Minister of State, Ministry of Communications and IT in 2008. He is now heading the Congress campaign in MP for the upcoming assembly elections. Notably, Scindia is an Economics graduate from Harvard University and holds an MBA degree from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Science & Technology
Dr. Harsh Vardhan is one of the most educated members of the Modi cabinet. Vardhan, currently serving as the Union Minister for Science & Technology, Earth Sciences and Environment, Forest and Climate Change, has completed MBBS and MS from Kanpur. After MS, he practised ENT surgery in Delhi. In 2002, he was honored with "Doctor of the last Decade" award by Indian Medical Association in Delhi.
Sugata Bose, Member of Parliament
Sugata Bose, a member of parliament from the TMC, is the grand nephew of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. He won from Jadhavpur constituency of West Bengal in 2014. Sugata obtained his Ph.D. from the Cambridge University and has an MA from the Harvard University. He has also served as the Director of Graduate Studies in History at Harvard and specializes in South Asian studies.
Subhash Bhamre, MoS for Defense
Incumbent Minister of State for Defense, Subhash Bhamre is a renowned oncologist. During 2014 elections, he won the Dhule constituency by defeating Congress candidate Amrishbhai Patel by over 1.3 lakh votes. Bhamre has an MBBS degree from the Grant Medical College in Mumbai. He obtained his Masters in Surgery in 1982. He is a super specialist cancer surgeon and also runs a 30-bed cancer hospital.
