'Hattrick at Centre...': Modi predicts poll win, wraps up campaign
Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his 2024 Lok Sabha election campaign in Hoshiarpur, Punjab on Thursday. During a rally for Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Anita Som Prakash, he predicted a third consecutive victory for his party on June 4, the poll counting day. "India has made up its mind to go for the Modi government for the third time," he said, foreseeing a "hattrick at the Centre with full majority."
Modi highlights past achievements
The PM lauded his government's performance over the past decade. "In 10 years, Modi has given a robust government that vanquished the nation's enemies and made India prosperous and self-reliant," he said, adding his government had worked with the motive that "karam hi dharam hai" for "sabka sath sabka vikas." "We have already prioritized works to be done after coming to power. A 125-day roadmap has already been prepared," he added.
PM Modi criticizes opposition
PM Modi also accused opposition parties of undermining the Constitution and attempting to strip Dalits, backward classes, and tribals of their reservations. He criticized the Congress and members of the Indian National Developmenatl Inclusive Alliance for their alleged plans to allocate these reservations exclusively to Muslims. "They want to take away the reservations of Dalits and backward classes and give them only to Muslims. Modi has exposed their conspiracy, and this is why they keep abusing him," he said.
Modi targets AAP, Congress
PM Modi criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for allying with the Congress, accusing both parties of corruption. He also targeted the AAP over drug issues in Punjab and an alleged liquor scam in Delhi. He added, "Due to their love for the vote bank, they could not assert their rights over Kartarpur Sahib at the time of Partition. These are the people who have been continuously opposing the Ram Mandir, Ayodhya for their vote bank."
Final phase of polling on June 1
The final phase of polling for 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab will take place on June 1, with results to be announced on June 4. The 2024 elections are being held in seven phases, in a six-week marathon running from April 19 to June 1. Following the conclusion of his campaign, Modi is scheduled to embark on a two-day meditation retreat at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanniyakumari, Tamil Nadu.
