Haryana Assembly elections: When will exit poll results be out
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that the exit poll results for the Haryana Assembly elections will be released after voting concludes on Saturday, October 5. The single-phase election is scheduled across 90 constituencies in the state. The ECI has directed media outlets not to broadcast any exit poll predictions before 6:00pm on this day.
Exit poll results expected after 6:30pm
However, Haryana's Chief Electoral Officer Pankaj Agrawal has clarified that the results will not be available until 6:30pm. This directive is part of a standard procedure implemented by the ECI during assembly or Lok Sabha elections to ensure fair and unbiased voting. The restriction will be lifted once voting concludes in all states participating in this electoral cycle, marking the end of the current voting period with Haryana's single-phase election.
ECI guidelines on exit polls aim to ensure fair elections
The ECI has issued strict guidelines regarding the release of exit poll results. Any violations can lead to legal action, including fines and imprisonment. These restrictions apply to all forms of media and individuals involved in election-related activities. The aim is to maintain the integrity of the electoral process and ensure that voters make their decisions uninfluenced by premature predictions or analysis of electoral outcomes.
ECI to monitor compliance with exit poll guidelines
The ECI, along with district election officers, returning officers and law enforcement agencies, will be monitoring compliance with these guidelines. "Any violations will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law," the commission said. The results for both Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir elections will be declared on October 8.
