The decision was made by the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) after it was discovered that these leaders were contesting against official party candidates in various constituencies.

The expelled Congress leaders include Naresh Dhande, Pardeep Gill, Sajjan Singh Dhull, Sunita Battan, Rajiv Mamuram Gondar, Dayal Singh Sirohi, Vijay Jain, Dilbag Sandil, Ajit Phogat, Abhijeet Singh Satbir Ratera Nitu Mann and Anita Dhull Badsikri.
They were found contesting in constituencies such as Guhla (SC), Jind Pundri Nilokheri (SC), Panipat Rural Uchana Kalan Dadri Bhiwani Bawani Khera (SC) Prithla and Kalayat against official party candidates.
Elections for the 90-member Haryana Assembly will be held on October 5.
