Harivansh Narayan Singh: News
Two-time Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Harivansh Narayan Singh, is no stranger to ruckus and chaos. As a journalist turned politician, he was well-versed in the chaotic ways of politics even before he stepped into it. Born on June 30, 1956, in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, Singh was a model student during his time at school. He did his master’s in economics from Banaras Hindu University. He holds a diploma in journalism from the same university as well. Singh began his career with the ‘Times of India.’ He also worked with ‘Dharmyug Magazine.’ As a journalist, he is known for injecting new life into once almost dead Hindi magazine ‘Prabhat Khabar. ’ Singh had his first taste of politics when he was appointed as the additional media advisor of then Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar. In 2014, he joined Janata Dal (United) and was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Bihar. He became the Deputy Chairman of the Upper House for the first time in 2018 and hence became the third non-Congress member to hold the position. When he returned to the Rajya Sabha in 2020, he was re-elected as the Deputy Chairman for the second time.
