CM Arvind Kejriwal sends legal notice to BJP's Gautam Gambhir
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday sent a legal notice to BJP's East Delhi candidate Gautam Gambhir over the cricketer-turned-politician's recent tweets criticizing him. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief sought an immediate apology in writing from the BJP candidate. The legal notice sent by Kejriwal also asked Gambhir to publish his written apology within 24 hours on social media. Here's more.
Gautam Gambhir slapped with legal notice over his tweets
Gambhir earlier tweeted he's ashamed to have Kejriwal as CM
Kejriwal's legal notice to Gambhir is in reference to his tweets criticizing the CM. Gambhir tweeted he feels "ashamed to have a CM like Arvind Kejriwal" and also called him "filth". "The notice to Gautam Gambhir seeks immediate apology in writing & asks to publish the same 'along with true & correct facts' in newspapers & on social media, within 24 hours," tweeted ANI.
Someone needs your 'jhaadu' to clean your dirty mind: Gambhir
"I abhor your act of outraging a woman's modesty @ArvindKejriwal and that too your own colleague. And all this for winning elections? U r filth Mr CM and someone needs ur very own झाड़ू to clean ur dirty mind," Gambhir had tweeted.
Here's what Gambhir tweeted about CM Kejriwal
Gambhir's tweets came after AAP candidate Atishi's allegations against him
Gambhir had posted the tweets criticizing Kejriwal after AAP's Lok Sabha candidate Atishi alleged that the BJP candidate and his team distributed pamphlets containing "extremely obscene, derogatory, and offensive remarks" against her. These pamphlets also allegedly targeted Delhi CM Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. Atishi is contesting against the cricketer-turned-politician from the East Delhi constituency.
Gambhir also sent defamation notice to Kejriwal, Sisodia, Atishi
Gambhir, however, reacted strongly to Atishi's allegations that he distributed derogatory pamphlets against her. He also said that he would withdraw his election candidature if it was proved that he distributed such pamphlets against Atishi and also targeted Kejriwal, saying the Delhi CM was behind the incident. Gambhir also sent a defamation notice to Kejriwal, Sisodia, and Atishi earlier on Thursday.
I will hang myself in public if proven: Gambhir
"I declare that if its proven that I did it (distributed the derogatory pamphlets), I will withdraw my candidature right now. If not, will u (Kejriwal) quit politics? (sic)" Gambhir tweeted. "If he (Kejriwal) can prove that I have anything to do with this pamphlet filth, then I will hang myself in public. Otherwise @ArvindKejriwal should quit politics. Accepted?" he wrote in another tweet.
