Francis D'Souza: News
Francis D’Souza, also known as Babush, was an Indian politician who was a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He has served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Goa and also contested from Mapusa (Vidhan Sabha constituency), but unsuccessfully. D’Souza was born on October 4, 1954, in Goa and considered himself a Hindu-Christian. But he never believed in religious boundaries and treated every person and religion equally. In 1999, D’Souza was first elected to the Goa Legislative Assembly as a candidate of the Goa Rajiv Congress Party. Later, he was elected as a BJP candidate from the Mapusa constituency in 2002, 2007, 2012, and 2017. When the government was surrounded by instability in 2004, leading to the then Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar being dislodged, D’Souza still continued to remain loyal to the BJP and rejected offers from other parties. When the BJP formed a government in 2012 under Parrikar’s leadership, D’Souza was appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister and continued to hold the position when Laxmikant Parsekar became the Chief Minister. In February 2019, D’Souza passed away following a battle with cancer.
