Former Haryana minister, BJP leader Satpal Sangwan dies at 77

Veteran politician and former Haryana Cabinet minister Satpal Sangwan passed away early Monday morning at the age of 77. He had been suffering from liver cancer for a few years.
A family member confirmed that his last rites would be conducted in his native village, Chandeni, in Charkhi Dadri, later in the day.
Sangwan was admitted to the Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon.

Sangwan's political journey spanned multiple parties
On Sunday, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Cabinet Minister Rao Narbir Singh visited him at the hospital.
Over his political career, Sangwan contested the Haryana Assembly elections six times.
He won twice from the Dadri seat. His first win was in 1996 as a candidate of the Haryana Vikas Party (HVP).
He was elected again in 2009 as a nominee of the Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) party.

After HJC merged with Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress, Sangwan became a minister in the Cabinet.
In a major political development, Sangwan joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on April 19, 2024.
Earlier, he was with Dushyant Chautala's Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) and had lost from the Dadri seat.
Ahead of the 2024 Haryana Assembly polls, Sangwan's son Sunil voluntarily retired as jail superintendent to join the BJP.
