FIR against Rahul Gandhi in Odisha over 'anti-national' statement

A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against Congress Member of Parliament Rahul Gandhi in Jharsuguda, Odisha.
The complaint accuses him of making anti-national statements which allegedly hurt India's sovereignty and integrity.
The FIR was lodged at the Jharsuguda Town police station under Sections 152 and 197(1)(d) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

BJP, RSS members accuse Gandhi of inciting rebellion
The FIR was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), BJP Yuva Morcha, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Bajrang Dal, and BJP Legal Cell of Jharsuguda district.
They claim Gandhi's remarks crossed the limits of free speech and were intended to incite subversive activities and rebellion.
The controversial statement was made by Gandhi on January 15, 2025, while inaugurating the Congress Party's new headquarters in Delhi.

Gandhi had said, "Our ideology, like the RSS ideology, is thousands of years old and it has been fighting the RSS ideology for thousands of years."
He added, "The BJP and the RSS have captured every single institution of our country. We are now fighting the BJP, the RSS, and the Indian State itself."
Following the complaint, local police have launched an investigation.
