FIR against AAP's Amanatullah for leading mob attack against police
What's the story
The Delhi Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan.
He is accused of obstructing police work and helping a suspect, Shahbaz Khan, escape in Jamia Nagar.
The incident took place on Monday when police were trying to arrest Shahbaz, who is involved in an attempted murder and Arms Act case of 2018.

Police allege Khan's associates aided suspect's escape
A senior police officer alleged that Khan's associates helped Shahbaz flee when he was being arrested.
"On Monday, we were questioning him when all of a sudden, a group of men stopped us," the officer said.
The group claimed to be Amanatullah's men and stopped police from capturing Shahbaz.
The mob allegedly pushed and thrashed the police team, allowing Shahbaz to escape.
Fugitive status
Suspect on the run, declared proclaimed offender
Shahbaz is on the run and has been declared a proclaimed offender by the court.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Ravi Kumar Singh said Khan came with supporters during the interrogation, forcing Shahbaz to flee.
Singh called it "clear obstruction in government work."
The FIR has been lodged against Khan and his associates under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The police later went to Khan's residence, but he was not found there.
Khan recently won his third term as MLA for the Okhla constituency with over 88,900 votes in the 2025 Delhi assembly elections.
Last year, he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate over alleged irregularities in a money laundering case involving the Delhi Waqf Board but was granted bail in November 2024.
