DMK chief Karunanidhi in hospital for minor medical procedure
DMK chief M Karunanidhi was shifted to Alwarpet's Kauvery Hospital this morning to change a feeding tube. This one was given in December. Doctors say it is a minor procedure. He is expected to be discharged by the evening. The 94-year-old underwent a tracheostomy and a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) last December after he complained of breathing difficulties.
A tracheostomy was done on the 94-year-old last December
In tracheostomy, a hole is made in the windpipe to remove congestion caused due to bacterial infection and to administer oxygen. In PEG, a feeding tube is inserted into the stomach through the abdominal wall, bypassing the oesophagus and mouth. "The tube in the abdomen is now being changed," said Kauvery Hospital executive director Dr S Aravindan.
