Digambar Kamat is an Indian politician who served as the Chief Minister of Goa from June 2007 to March 2012. He is serving as the Leader of Opposition in the Goa Legislative Assembly, as of 2021. Kamat is also serving as the President of the Swimming Federation of India, as of 2021. He was born on March 8, 1954, in Goa and holds a bachelor’s degree in science. Kamat began his political career as a member of the Indian National Congress. He later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party Coalition government in 1994. In 2005, he joined the Indian National Congress again in support of the Margao constituency voters’ referendum choice. Kamat was the only single choice to lead Goa as Chief Minister for a full term of 2007-2012. During Kamat’s tenure as Goa’s Chief Minister, the state’s economic and social success hit new heights of gross domestic product. He is married to Asha and the couple has two children. Kamat is also passionate about badminton and swimming.
