#MakeCowGreatAgain? Uttarakhand-minister says cow exhales oxygen, should become National-mother
According to Rekha Arya, Minister of Animal Husbandry of Uttarakhand, cow is the only animal which not only inhales oxygen but exhales it too. To all the trees, we are sorry! On Wednesday, Arya moved a Resolution in the Assembly to declare cow the 'Rashtra Mata' or National Mother. The Assembly passed the Resolution, unanimously, multiple reports said. Here's more about this.
Arya lists 'medicinal benefits' of cow urine in Assembly
The minister listed a number of reasons to support her claim that cow is a special animal. She spoke about 'medicinal benefits' of cow urine. "The cow is treated as an incarnation of motherhood. The cow's milk is scientifically considered the best for the newborn after his mother's milk," she added. She also said time has come to ban cow-killing in the country.
Surprisingly, Congress had no issues with the Resolution
Notably, the Resolution didn't find any resistance from the Opposition Congress. The leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Indira Hridayesh, said they had no issues with cow being given a high status. What was worrying are the deaths of cows due to lack of care, she asserted. "Much more needs to be done on the ground to truly respect the cow," Hridayesh said.
Congress worries about bovines, government official quells it
"Nearly 75% abandoned bovines are male. Last month, we started production of sex-sorted semen with the help of Inguran Sexing Technology under Rashtriya Gokul Mission. This is going to help in reducing the population of stray bovine," said R Meenakshi Sundaram, secretary of animal husbandry.
Resolution will be sent to Centre for consideration
Now, that the Uttarakhand Assembly has given its nod on it, the single line Resolution will be sent to Union Government for consideration. Arya said the government was working relentlessly to protect cows across the state by building shelters, and this tag would be the next step. "Getting the status of Rashtra Mata for the cow is another step towards cow protection," she said.
