'Kangana has experience of rape...': Akali leader's remark triggers row
Simranjit Singh Mann, a former Member of Parliament (MP) from Punjab, has ignited a controversy with his derogatory comments against actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut. The Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) leader made these remarks in response to Ranaut's recent allegations that rapes occurred during the farmers' protest. "You can ask her (Kangana Ranaut) how rape happens so that people can be explained how rape happens. She has a lot of experience of rape," Mann said.

Ranaut drew the ire of many recently when she claimed that the farmers' protests against the now-repealed farm laws could have led to a Bangladesh-like crisis in India if not for strong leadership. The MP from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh also claimed that "bodies were hanging" and sexual assaults were happening during these demonstrations, which lasted nearly a year in 2019-2020.
Ranaut's allegations of foreign involvement and BJP's response
In addition, Ranaut alleged that China and the United States were involved in the "conspiracy." Following the comments, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) distanced itself from her statements, stating she was neither authorized nor allowed to speak on party policy issues. "The statement made by BJP MP Ms Kangana Ranaut in the context of the farmers' movement does not represent the party's view," her party said.
Ranaut acknowledges party's reprimand over her controversial remarks
Later, Ranaut acknowledged in an exclusive interview with India Today that she had been rebuked by the BJP leadership for her comments. She stated, "I was reprimanded by the party leadership and that's fine with me. I do not think I am the final voice of the party. I am not that crazy or stupid to believe that." The National Award-winning actor further added that she would be more cautious with her choice of words in future.
