Rahul Gandhi to meet Congress state chiefs to discuss strategy
Congress chief Rahul Gandhi is slated to meet the party's state chiefs and leaders on Saturday to discuss and start finalizing the grand old party's election strategy for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. His sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, currently the party's general secretary and in-charge of Uttar Pradesh east, will also attend the meet. Here are the details.
The meeting will be held at the Congress war room
The meeting is expected to be held at the Congress' war room at 15 Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Road in Delhi. Notably, the meeting comes just two days after the Congress chief met with the general secretaries of the party to review the preparations for the upcoming elections. The meeting was Priyanka's first official one.
A CWC meeting is also expected soon
It's expected that an extended Congress Working Committee (CWC) will also have a meeting soon to discuss preparations for the elections. The CWC is also expected to endorse Gandhi's election promise of a minimum guaranteed income, as well as welcome the induction of Priyanka Gandhi and Jyotiraditya Scindia to the party's highest decision-making body.
Selection of candidates to be completed by month end
As far as the party's plans are concerned, it's understood that all general secretaries and state party chiefs have been asked by party general secretary in-charge KC Venugopal and party president Gandhi to complete selection of candidates by the end of this month. The leaders are also expected to cement alliances with potential partners in various states.
How the Congress is shaping up ahead of the elections
The Congress recently came to power in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh, and will hope to repeat the same feat as it looks to take on the BJP in the national elections. Gandhi, for his part, has been relentlessly attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP over several issues, including the Rafale deal, lack of jobs, farmers' distress and corruption.
