Congress releases first list of 15 candidates for #2019LokSabha elections

What's the story

The Congress party has released its first list of 15 candidates to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections likely to be held around April-May this year. The party's President Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi are on the list. While Rahul will be contesting from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, Sonia Gandhi will seek election from Raebareli in the state. Here's more.

11 candidates from UP, 4 from Gujarat

Apart from Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, the names of 13 other Congress leaders are on the party's first list for the General Election this year. While 11 candidates, including Rahul and Sonia, will fight from Uttar Pradesh, the remaining four would contest from Gujarat.

List doesn't include Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's name

However, the first list of Congress candidates does not have the name of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who had recently entered active politics in January. She was also made the party's General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh East.

Former union minister Salman Khurshid to contest from Farrukhabad

Others on the list include former Union Ministers Salman Khursheed, Jitin Prasad, and RPN Singh who will be contesting from Farrukhabad, Dhaurahra, and Kushi Nagar, respectively. Meanwhile, former Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Nirmal Khatri will be fielded from Faizabad, while Bharatsinh Solanki, the party's ex-chief of the Gujarat unit, has been fielded from the Anand constituency in the state.

Other Gujarat candidates include Raju Parmar from Ahmedabad West, Prashant Patel from Vadodara, Ranjit Mohansinh Rathwa from Chhota Udaipur. Other UP candidates include Imran Masood from Saharanpur, Saleem Iqbal Shervani from Badaun, Annu Tandon from Unnao, Rajaram Pal from Akbarpur, Brij Lal Khabri from Jalaun.
