Congress names new office after Indira, not Manmohan; BJP reacts
What's the story
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has slammed the Congress for naming its new headquarters after former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
The row erupted as the Congress shifted its headquarters from 24 Akbar Road to a new address on Kotla Road.
The Congress will move its central office to 9A Kotla Road on Wednesday.
Ahead of the building's inauguration, posters were spotted outside demanding it be named "Sardar Manmohan Singh Bhavan" in memory of late former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Accusations
BJP accuses Congress of 'Family 1st' mindset
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla also accused the Congress of ignoring its stalwarts like PV Narsimha Rao and Pranab Mukherjee.
He tweeted the decision reflects a "Family First" mindset and is an insult to the Sikh community.
"The Congress did dirty politics on samman of Dr Manmohan Singh, but now, despite a huge demand to name their new headquarters after Dr Singh - they ignored him and named it after Indira Gandhi," Poonawalla said in his tweet.
Cremation controversy
Congress's previous request for Singh's cremation site
After Singh's death on December 26 last year, the Congress had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the government to hold the former PM's cremation at a site suitable for constructing a memorial.
However, Singh was cremated at Nigambodh Ghat. This prompted the Congress to accuse the BJP of disrespecting Singh.
Earlier, the Congress had also urged PM Modi to name the upcoming Veer Savarkar College in Delhi's Najafgarh after Singh.
