Congress launches YouTube channel 'INC TV' to combat "partisan" media
The Congress party today launched its own YouTube channel called INC TV on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti. Through the channel, the party aims to telecast programs, give out updates, and tackle "partisan" media houses. The platform was started on March 25, though it reportedly does not have any content as yet. Here are more details on this.
Channel to start operations on April 24
According to reports, INC TV will formally commence operations on April 24, which is observed as the National Panchayati Raj Day in the memory of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala, and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge were present at a press conference for the platform. The channel will initially have programs for eight hours, Surjewala said.
'Our nation has the right to hear truth'
"Our nation has the right to hear the truth. Through INC TV, we aim to bring it out," Kharge reportedly said at the launch event today, accusing the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of misusing the media.
It will telecast programs and news items
The channel will reportedly show the speeches and views of Congress interim chief Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other senior leaders of the party. It will eventually telecast its programs as well as news items. The Congress hopes to make it a counter to the central government's NaMo TV, named after Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Channel meant to convey party's message 'directly to people'
The Congress said that the platform has been started with the aim to convey the party's message "directly to the people" and to also raise pertinent issues. Notably, Congress as well as several other Opposition parties have often blamed the majority of Indian media for being partial toward them, alleging that they favor the ruling BJP.
Another source of internal conflict for the Congress?
However, there seems to be an internal conflict within the party over the matter. Not many were aware about the channel's launch while some party members have raised questions about the need for such a channel and who would be its audience, News18 reports. Some others feel that the channel could be used for promoting those who are associated with it.
