Here's how much Congress spent on Rahul's two poll campaigns
The Congress has disclosed its expenditures for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. According to their partial expenditure statement, the party spent ₹70 lakh each on Rahul Gandhi's campaigns in Wayanad and Rae Bareli. These expenses are part of a total lump sum payment of ₹145.5 crore distributed among various candidates. To recall, Gandhi won both Wayanad and Rae Bareli seats, and he retained the latter.
Samajwadi Party's campaign expenditures revealed
In comparison, the Samajwadi Party allocated its maximum funds of ₹72.15 lakh to Dimple Yadav's election in Manipuri. This was notably higher than the ₹60 lakh spent on party supremo Akhilesh Yadav's election from Kannauj. These figures were revealed in the Election Expenditure Statements for Lok Sabha elections filed by the parties before the Election Commission of India.
Congress's additional campaign expenditures detailed
Beyond Gandhi's campaigns, the Congress also spent ₹87 lakh on Vikramaditya Singh's campaign in Mandi Lok Sabha constituency. However, Singh was defeated by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Kangana Ranaut. The party further allocated ₹107 crore to 24 Lok Sabha candidates, ₹38 lakh to assembly poll candidates in Arunachal Pradesh, and ₹5 lakh to a candidate in Tamil Nadu.
Other parties' election expenditures disclosed
Asaduddin Owaisi's party reported spending ₹52 lakh on his election from Hyderabad. Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress spent ₹75 lakh each on its 48 candidates in the Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal, totaling an expenditure of ₹36 crore. The Akali Dal declared that it spent ₹60 lakh on the election of Harsmirat Badal from Bathinda. All parties are required to declare their expenditure statement before the ECI, including money spent by the party on candidate campaigns in various seats.
