Congress' social media head leaves Twitter for no apparent reason
In a strange development, Divya Spandana, who heads social media unit of Congress, seems to have left Twitter, for no apparent reason. Her Twitter account no longer exists, and this has made way for conspiracy theories. More so because Divya went "offline" two days after she congratulated BJP leader Nirmala Sitharaman for becoming India's Finance Minister. Meanwhile, Congress has maintained silence on the matter.
Sitharaman was showered with best wishes after she became FinMin
For the uninitiated, Sitharaman is the second Indian woman to be elevated as Finance Minister. Before her, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi held the post between 1970 and 1971. As Sitharaman broke glass ceilings, even her political rivals sent her best wishes. Divya wrote, "The GDP not looking great, I'm sure you will do your best to revive the economy. You have our support."
After that, her account just vanished
Divya's tweet showed politicians are capable of keeping their differences aside and know how to congratulate others. But after putting out the tweet, Divya went incommunicado on Twitter. Sources told ANI she might have quit the party, but Divya refuted the claims. "Your source is wrong," Divya, who played a pivotal role in changing Congress' social media game, told the agency.
Earlier, Congress decided to not send spokespersons on TV debates
This strange development comes close on the heels of another decision taken by Congress. Earlier this week, Congress declared it would not send its spokespersons on TV debates for a month. It is still unclear whether Divya's account had some connection to this order or not. Congress media department hasn't commented on Divya's exit from Twitter yet.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time that reports have emerged suggesting Divya has quit Congress. In October last year, Divya posted a distasteful tweet about Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he inaugurated Statue of Unity. It was reported Congress felt Divya went overboard, which is why she might leave the party. But soon Divya clarified she was staying with the grand old party.
After humiliating defeat, Congress is assessing what went wrong
On a related note, Congress has gone into a self-intervention mode after facing defeat in Lok Sabha polls. The party failed to stop PM Modi's thumping victory in general elections and won only 52 out of 543 seats. Though Congress proved it can't be a good Opposition, party president Rahul Gandhi asked MPs to remain aggressive and charge BJP on a daily basis.
