#IndiaDecidesOnDec11: Who will be Chhattisgarh's new CM after Raman Singh?
The people of Chhattisgarh have shown Raman Singh the exit door handing a major upset to Bharatiya Janata Party, which was governing the state since the last fifteen years. In the Maoist-affected state, Congress is leading in 63 seats while the BJP has been relegated to just 18 seats. Now the question which needs to be addressed is: Who will be the CM?
Bhupesh Baghel: The man who delivered Chhattisgarh to Congress
Bhupesh Baghel, who is the president of the Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee, can be duly credited for reviving the party in the state and bringing down a giant like Singh. Baghel has been associated with the Congress since 1980s, and is a four-term MLA from Patan. After the Congress leadership was wiped out in 2013 Darbha Maoist attack, he rose to prominence.
TS Singh Deo: The richest candidate of Congress
For years now, TS Singh Deo has led the Congress in the opposition and after the astounding victory, looks like he might get a chance to smell power. One of the richest candidates of Congress in the state, Deo is said to have amicable relations with the royalty. About the next CM, Deo said it would be chosen after a swayamwar like Sita's.
Tamradhwaj Sahu: The leader who represents a crucial community
Tamradhwaj Sahu, is the current MP from Durg constituency of Chhattisgarh and is known for his clout among the Sahu community. The chief of the Congress' state OBC unit, he emerged as a key player in gathering OBC and SC/ST votes for the party. BJP and Congress feared the Ajit Jogi-Mayawati alliance could sweep SC/ST votes, but Sahu ensured his party got them.
After fifteen years, Chhattisgarh slips out of Singh's hands
Before the results, Singh had refuted claims of hung assembly and said he is confident the development in the state will ensure a victory. But the results show anti-incumbency was riding high and resulted in Singh's ouster.
