Modi government accords Z+ security cover to Sharad Pawar

The Centre on Wednesday granted a Z-plus category armed VIP security cover to Nationalist Congress Party (NCP-SP) leader Sharad Pawar, reports said.
The Union Home Ministry has directed the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to provide this protection to the 83-year-old former Maharashtra chief minister.
A team of 55 armed CRPF personnel have been assigned to the responsibility, reports added.

Decision based on threat assessment review
According to reports, after a threat assessment review conducted by central agencies, it was recommended that Pawar receive enhanced security measures.
As a result, the Centre has approved Z-plus protection for him, which will be managed by the CRPF's VIP security wing.
A CRPF team is already stationed in Maharashtra to undertake this responsibility.

Z-plus protection involves 55 personnel, including CRPF commandos, guarding the individual around the clock.
Additional NSG commandos and a bulletproof vehicle are provided if necessary.
This security, including expert-trained commandos, is granted to figures like Home Minister Amit Shah and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
