'Misleading country': BJP's Nishikant Dubey takes dig at Mahua Moitra
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Nishikant Dubey on Wednesday accused Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra of "misleading the country" and questioned her foreign trips. This comes after he alleged that she took bribes to ask questions against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Adani Group in Parliament. In his latest attack, Dubey asked whether Moitra's MP login was opened in Dubai.
Why does this story matter?
Dubey has accused Moitra of accepting money from Hiranandani Group CEO Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for asking questions in Parliament on his behalf about the Adani Group and PM Modi, accusations that she rejected outright. Mahua instead said that Dubey's "fake degree" should be investigated first. However, if the allegations are proven genuine, she might face harsh consequences, including suspension from the House.
'Question is whether NIC mail was accessed from Dubai': Dubey
In a post on X, Dubey said, "The question is not about Adani, degree or theft, but about your corruption by misleading the country." "The answer has to be given whether NIC mail was accessed from Dubai? Whether she asked questions in exchange for a bribe. Who bore the expenses of her foreign trips?" he added.

TMC calls for parliamentary probe into 'cash-for-query' allegations
Following the cash-for-query allegations, TMC asked Moitra to clarify her stance, while another party MP, Derek O'Brien, called for a parliamentary probe into the matter. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla referred the case to the Ethics Committee of the Lower House last Friday. Dubey referred to a letter from attorney Jai Anant Dehadrai—Moitra's jilted lover—alleging it contained "irrefutable" proof of bribes given to her.
Moitra petitioned Delhi HC, hearing on October 31
On October 17, Moitra petitioned the Delhi High Court, refuting the allegations and stating they were intended to tarnish her reputation. The court considered her plea on October 20. She sought directives to restrain Dubey, Dehadrai, and various social media platforms and media outlets from posting, disseminating, or publishing any false and defamatory content against her. The next hearing is set for October 31.
