Mayawati slams Rahul and other Opposition leaders over Kashmir visit
BSP supremo Mayawati lashed out at leaders of Congress and other parties who tried to visit Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, to understand the aftermath of revoking Article 370. In a series of tweets posted on Monday, Mayawati said with their ill-thought through move, the Opposition leaders have given BJP an opportunity to score political points. Politicians should have thought this through, she opined.
Context: Rahul wasn't allowed to leave Srinagar Airport
On Saturday, Rahul and 11 other Opposition leaders, including Sitaram Yechury, D Raja, Dinesh Trivedi, and Manoj Jha, flew to Srinagar, with an intent to get a whiff of what's happening. J&K has been under unprecedented security cover since August 4, before Centre decided to annul Article 370. The politicians, however, weren't allowed to leave Srinagar Airport despite Rahul trying hard to negotiate.
Mayawati explained why her party supported Centre's move
Charging at Congress, Mayawati tweeted Bhimrao Ambedkar always supported equality, unity and integrity in India, hence, was staunchly opposed to the idea of Article 370 which bestowed a special status to J&K. "This was the reason why BSP supported the removal of this Article," the former Chief Minister said. She added that due to this massive change, things will take time to adjust.
It will get normal after some time: Mayawati
"After end of Article 370, about 69 years after implementation of Constitution in the country, it will take some time for the situation to become normal there. It is better to wait a bit, as has been accepted by the court as well," she wrote.
Mayawati said Opposition leaders only helped BJP
Mayawati then went on to write that Opposition leaders should not have been this hasty with their decision. "Didn't the recent visit of the Congress and other party leaders to Kashmir without permission give the Centre and the Governor a chance to do politics? It would have been appropriate if they had thought about it a bit before going there," she tweeted.

Situation is not normal in J&K, said Rahul after visit
Failing to fulfill what he set out to, a disappointed Rahul slammed Centre after returning to Delhi. He said the way he and other leaders were asked to return shows BJP is "misleading" everyone, and nothing is normal in the border state. "The press people with us were mishandled, beaten. It's clear that things are not normal in Jammu and Kashmir," he said.
