Chandrababu Naidu is confident BJP won't win 2019 general elections
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday said the Bharatiya Janata Party will not come to power again in 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Naidu, who was once an ally of BJP, called PM Narendra Modi a 'campaign PM', who only gave slogans but didn't deliver on promises. He added coming to power is a 'distant dream' for the ruling BJP.
TDP has the power to change political narrative: Naidu
"The TDP has, in the past, played a key role in forming governments. It has the power to change the political narrative in the country. We won't step back," Naidu said at the inauguration of Mahanadu, the Telugu Desam Party's (TDP) annual conclave.
TDP to discuss Centre's 'betrayal politics'
During the conclave, the party is expected to pass a resolution against the Centre's "non-cooperation and non-fulfilment" of assurances made in the Rajya Sabha related to the special category status of Andhra Pradesh. For long now, Andhra Pradesh has been seeking special status on grounds that capital Hyderabad went to Telangana. Naidu said Andhra Pradesh got 'raw deal' after partition.
Andhra Pradesh's special status demand led to TDP-NDA fallout
Andhra Pradesh was split in 2014. During a discussion on the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill, former Prime Minister had said, "Special category status will be extended to the successor state of Andhra Pradesh for a period of five years." But, BJP said 14th Finance Commission doesn't give special status to the state. This led to TDP exiting the NDA family in March 2018.
