'Lucky' chair for PM Modi being prepared before Kanpur rally
The wooden chair, believed to be the lucky charm for the BJP, is in news again. The 'auspicious' chair is now being prepared for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on which he will sit before his election rally in Kanpur. BJP leaders believe that the chair "launched" the victorious campaigns for the party in 2014 Lok Sabha elections and 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
Modi set for rally, chair being polished and readied
BJP will launch its election campaign from Kanpur this Friday. PM Modi is set for the rally and party officials are doing everything in their power to make it successful. As part of the preparations, the wooden chair, supposedly a luck booster for BJP, is being prepared as well. This will be the third time that the PM will use the chair before elections.
Modi will be using this chair for third time
"The chair has been polished again for the PM's visit. This will be the third time that Modi ji will be using this chair, which has been kept at the BJP's office since 2013," said Surendra Maithani, party's district unit president.
Why is the Kanpur rally, and the chair so important?
Like they say, the road to Centre goes through UP. To recall, BJP won 71 seats from Uttar Pradesh in 2014 Lok Sabha Elections. An overwhelming crowd of 7 lakh people also attended Modi's 2013 rally in Kanpur, Maithani recalled. The rally holds the fate of BJP in Kanpur and Bundelkhand regions, as the party's 2019 election campaign will be launched. Hence, the stake.
Party leaders believe chair helped BJP win 2014 polls
Coming back to the chair, it's a regular piece of wood, but has been kept inside a glass cabinet for five years now. Modi used it in 2013 for the first time, before 2014 elections. Party leaders believed that chair helped BJP win in the 2014 elections and later in 2017 Assembly elections in UP. Modi sat on the chair before campaigning for both.
