After thrashing official with bat, BJP MLA garlanded upon bail
BJP MLA Akash Vijayvargiya, who was arrested for thrashing a Municipal Corporation official with a cricket bat, was released from jail in Indore on Sunday morning. However, despite his deplorable actions, Vijayvargiya, who is the son of senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya, received a hero's welcome. Upon release from jail, he was garlanded by supporters. Here are more details about the incident.
Vijayvargiya 'spent a good time in jail'
On Sunday, Vijayvargiya was released from jail after being granted bail by a special court in Bhopal. "I spent a good time in jail. I will keep working for the betterment of the region and public," Vijayvargiya said upon release, as he was garlanded. Reportedly, he went straight to the Indore BJP office, where celebratory shots were fired and he was garlanded again.

'Hope to God I don't get to bat again'
Showing no remorse for his actions, Vijayvargiya told ANI, "In such a situation when a woman was being dragged in front of the police, I couldn't think of doing anything else, not embarrassed at what I did." He added, "I pray to God ki dobara ballebazi karne ka avsar na de. (I pray to God that I don't get a chance to bat again)."
Vijayvargiya granted bail in two cases on Saturday
According to reports, Vijayvargiya was asked to furnish a personal bail bond of Rs. 50,000 in the case of assault against civic body officials and of Rs. 20,000 in the other case, where he demonstrated a protest in Indore's Rajbara over power cuts.
Context: Vijayvargiya thrashed Municipal official conducting anti-encroachment drive
To recall, earlier on Wednesday, Vijayvargiya, who represents the assembly seat of Indore-3, along with his supporters, chased an Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) official, who was overseeing an anti-encroachment drive. Despite the presence of police, the BJP legislator thrashed the official with a cricket bat. Television crew present on the spot caught the assault on camera and video clips went viral later.
We will end this corruption and goondaism, Vijayvargiya said earlier
Vijayvargiya, who claimed people were being inhumanely displaced from buildings during the demolition drive, had warned officials on Wednesday, "You should leave within five minutes or else whatever happens after that will be your responsibility." "We will end this corruption and goondaism. Aavedan, nivedan aur phir dana dan (Request, appeal and then attack)," Vijayvargiya had proudly said, adding this was the party ideology.
Amit Shah sought report from BJP MP unit on incident
However, Home Minister and BJP chief Amit Shah had sought a report from MP's BJP unit on the incident, as it hurt the party's image. Separately, CM Kamal Nath had remarked, "Bat should be used to symbolize nation's victory, not defeat of democracy." Municipal officers also removed 'Salute Akash ji' posters put up by Vijayvargiya's supporters and suspended 21 IMC officials for supporting him.
