Prostitutes are better than corrupt government officials: BJP MLA
UP BJP MLA Surendra Singh, known for his controversial statements, has once again put his foot in his mouth. Comparing government officials who demand bribes to prostitutes, he said today, "Prostitutes are better than government officials; at least they take money and do their work and also dance on the stage. But these officials, even after taking money, don't do their work."
Singh urges supporters to thrash officials demanding bribes with shoes
The comments came a day after Singh observed a 'chetavani diwas' ('warning day') to protest corruption. He also coined a slogan on the occasion: "Ghoos mangey to ghoosa do, nahin maaney to joota do." (If they ask for bribes, punch them; if they still don't understand, thrash them with shoes) Singh claimed he was speaking in public interest, and was willing to go to jail.
Singh known to make controversial statements in the past too
In April, Singh faced flak for communally charged statements, when he said the 2019 elections would be fought on the lines of "Islam versus Bhagwan" and "Pakistan versus India." After BJP lost the Kairana and Noorpur bypolls, he squarely placed the blame on "incompetent" state ministers. According to the Bairia MLA, parents are responsible for rapes as "they don't take care of their wards."
'Not biologically possible to rape a mother of three'
Earlier, Singh had come under fire for defending Unnao MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, accused of raping a teenager. "I am speaking from a psychological point of view; no one can rape a mother of three children. It is not possible," Singh had said.
What's with all the 'prostitute' references?
Incidentally, this isn't the first time Singh used the comparison. Earlier, he equated SBSP President Om Prakash Rajbhar to a prostitute, accusing him of minting money by inducting his family into politics. In response, Rajbhar said, "A prostitute considers everyone like herself." We all know politics is a messy ground full of mudslinging, but can we stop insulting sex workers and respect their dignity?
