For bat incident, BJP may send notice to Akash Vijayvargiya
Akash Vijayvargiya, who thought it was absolutely fine to thrash a civic official, could soon receive a showcause notice from his party BJP. The 34-year-old first time MLA from Indore-3 was rebuked by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, earlier this week, for his disrespectful act. PM Modi had said such behavior won't be tolerated and it doesn't matter whose son someone was. Here's what happened.
Context: Akash beat civic official with a bat, was arrested
Last week, Akash, who is the son of senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya, was caught on camera thrashing a civic official with a bat after an altercation over a demolition drive. He was arrested and got bail on Sunday morning. Pleased with his release, Akash's supporters welcomed him like a star. However, after PM Modi's stern message, BJP leaders in Indore denied celebrating Akash's return.
Notably, PM Modi said this behavior can't be tolerated
At BJP's parliamentary meeting on Tuesday, PM Modi made it clear he would not entertain such behavior. "Beta kisi ka bhi ho, manmaani nahi chalegi (whosoever's son he may be, bad behavior will not be tolerated). Your job as an MP is to help and serve people," PM Modi said. He said he wouldn't flinch on "losing an MLA" either.
Top brass of MP BJP met to discuss future steps
After PM Modi cracked the whip on Akash, the Madhya Pradesh unit of BJP went abuzz. On Wednesday, senior leaders like Rakesh Singh, Ramlal, Suhas Bhagat, and former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan met to discuss the future course of action against Akash and those who gave him a rousing welcome. A senior functionary said the leaders haven't decided on whether to suspend the leaders or not.
Meanwhile, another BJP leader wants his suspension to be revoked
While Akash stares at a probable suspension, another BJP leader who was suspended during Lok Sabha polls has requested the party to revoke the decision. Anil Saumitra, the in-charge of BJP communication, had called Mahatma Gandhi "the father of Pakistan", and faced action. "I have apologized for what I said, and promised to follow party rules and instructions," Saumitra told TOI.
Akash's actions have also increased woes of father Kailash
What Akash did, has sort of spelled trouble for his father Kailash Vijayvargiya. Seen as BJP President Amit Shah's hatchet man, Vijayvargiya Sr., is credited for the party's rise in West Bengal. But he is also locked in a battle with former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and Indore Mayor Malini Goud. And the rival camp is reportedly using PM Modi's message to run a campaign against him.
Meanwhile, Akash wrote letter to Kamal Nath seeking CBI probe
Separately, Akash has shot off a letter to Chief Minister Kamal Nath seeking a CBI probe into the demolition drive. He claimed Public Works Department Minister Sajjan Singh Verma was responsible for the drive, as he is "eyeing the property".
