BJP plans to drop 40% ministers for Haryana elections: Report
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is planning a significant strategy shift for the upcoming Haryana state elections. According to PTI, senior BJP leaders, including Union Minister Amit Shah, gathered at party president JP Nadda's residence on Thursday to explore potential candidates for the upcoming Haryana assembly elections. A party insider told News18 that their primary objective is to assess every candidate based on the dynamics of their respective seats and their ability to win those seats.
BJP's new strategy focuses on candidate winnability
Speculations are rife that the BJP may drop around 40% of its current ministers in the Haryana government for the upcoming polls. This includes former minister Sandeep Singh, who has been involved in a sexual misconduct controversy. The party is also considering giving more opportunities to women candidates with strong winning prospects, and those who were unsuccessful or did not receive a ticket in recent Lok Sabha elections.
BJP to focus on local issues in Haryana elections
Reports said that the BJP is aware of the challenges it faces in the upcoming elections, including anti-incumbency sentiments, farmer protests, and discontent among wrestlers. A source told News18 that "the strategy of the assembly elections will be entirely different from what we have seen in the past and the election will be fought entirely on local issues."
BJP's efforts to attract diverse voter base in Haryana
A decade ago, by presenting Manohar Lal Khattar as a non-Jat Chief Minister, the party aimed to challenge the state's Jat-dominated politics. This strategy will continue with special focus on attracting Punjabi OBC and other voters. The BJP is up against strong opposition from the Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress in the state, with rumors of nominating wrestler Vinesh Phogat.
BJP's potential candidates for upcoming Haryana elections
The BJP, on the other hand, is reportedly considering several potential candidates, such as Babita Phogat, national spokesperson Rajeev Jaitly, Bhavya Bishnoi from Adampur, and Shruti Choudhry. Rao Inderjit Singh, a minister in the Narendra Modi government, has also requested a ticket for his daughter Aditi. Haryana will hold elections in a single phase on October 1. Votes will be counted on October 4.
