#Verdict2019: BJP scripts history, comes close to Trinamool in Bengal
Months of campaigning and frequent visits of its leaders seem to have worked out well for BJP in West Bengal. The saffron party, which won just two seats in last parliamentary polls, has taken a lead in 18 out of 42 Lok Sabha seats in Bengal. Bengal polls were soaked in violence, BJP fought nevertheless
To recall, elections were held in West Bengal in all seven phases and were soaked in violence. Cadres of Trinamool and BJP clashed violently and polls were far from peaceful. Even the presence of central forces couldn't curtail the bloodshed. Not being cowed down by several factors, BJP workers fought tooth and nail. The results show the citizens have voted overwhelmingly.
Bengal shifted from "Left to Right"
Notably, Bengal was one of the states which had an immense presence of Left, until Banerjee came to power. Hence, BJP's win is being seen as a shift from "Left to Right". According to experts, Left's vote share of 6% has gone towards BJP.
What anti-incumbency? BJP dismissed all theories of political pundits
Apart from Bengal, BJP put up a spectacular show in the rest of the country. At the time of press, BJP was leading in 295 seats as opposed to 282 seats in 2014. The results confirmed that India was ridden by pro-incumbency this time. It also shows that Opposition failed to put up a good fight or project an able leader.
