BJP releases list of 177 candidates for Andhra, Arunachal elections
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released a list of 177 candidates for the Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh and Arunachal Pradesh. The party has announced the names of 123 candidates for Andhra Pradesh and 54 members for Arunachal Pradesh elections. The Assembly elections will be held on 11 April in both the states. Names finalized in BJP Central Election Committee meeting
The names of the 177 BJP candidates for both the states were finalized during the party's Central Election Committee meeting held on 16 March. PM Narendra Modi, party's President Amit Shah, and Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj among others attended the meeting.
Andhra has 175-member Assembly while Arunachal has 60-member Assembly
Andhra Pradesh has 175 Assembly seats and BJP is fielding candidates for 123 seats. In Arunachal Pradesh, which has a 60-member Assembly, the party is contesting in 54 constituencies, according to BJP's statement. The main parties contending for power in Andhra Pradesh are CM Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSR Congress apart from Congress, BJP, and Jana Sena.
Arunachal CM Khandu to contest from Mukto
Coming to Arunachal Pradesh, where BJP came to power after 43 Congress MLAs, including CM Pema Khandu, left the party to join Peoples Party of Arunachal and then moved to BJP. CM Khandu will now be fighting the Assembly polls from the Mukto constituency.
