Bhagwant Mann takes oath as 18th Chief Minister of Punjab
After the landslide victory of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bhagwant Mann took oath as the 18th Chief Minister of Punjab. The oath was administered by Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit. The ceremony was held at Khatkar Kalan, the ancestral village of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal was seen accompanying him at the venue.
'Inquilab Zindabad', 'Jo Bole So Nihal', 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai'
Amid chants of 'Inquilab Zindabad', 'Jo Bole So Nihal' and 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai', Mann thanked the people who attended the ceremony. "Earlier, swearing-in ceremonies would be held in palaces and cricket grounds. But we have come to this village to remember those who gave us this independent nation. Freedom fighters stay in our hearts," Mann said.
"Also the government for those who didn't vote for us"
"It will take many lives to pay back the love we have got from you. We are also the government for those who didn't vote for us and we will work for them too," Mann said.
Will solve all issues: Mann
In his first address as the CM, Bhagwant Mann said that his government will solve all problems in Punjab. "We will stay here and ensure the progress of our land. From unemployment to farming — we shall fix everything and find solutions to the smallest of problems. We will build schools and hospitals in Punjab. All we need is your blessing," Mann said.
"Will build schools, Mohalla clinics just like Delhi"
Mann also added that "just as people from abroad come to Delhi to see schools and visit Mohalla clinics, we will build schools and hospitals in Punjab so that people from abroad also come here to see schools and hospitals."
Mann won from Dhuri assembly seat
Notably, AAP chose Bhagwant Mann the party's chief ministerial face through televoting. In the recently held assembly elections, the party won 92 out of 117 seats in Punjab. Mann, who contested from the Dhuri assembly seat, defeated Congress candidate Dalvir Singh Goldy by a margin of 58,206 votes. He was a Member of Parliament from the Sangrur Lok Sabha constituency since 2014.
