Delhi CM Atishi wins Kalkaji seat
What's the story
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has successfully defended her Kalkaji Assembly seat, according to the Election Commission.
She won with a margin of 3,500 votes, defeating Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Ramesh Bidhuri.
Atishi assumed the top position after AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal resigned months prior to the election due to corruption allegations.
She had won this seat in the 2020 elections with a massive margin of over 11,000 votes.
Campaign controversy
Bidhuri expresses confidence in lead, criticizes Atishi
The election campaign witnessed bitter exchanges between the two candidates, with Bidhuri attacking Atishi for changing her surname from "Marlena" to "Singh."
Atishi, visibly emotional, had hit back at these remarks at a press conference, accusing Bidhuri of "seeking votes by abusing" her father.
He had also compared Atishi to a deer and slammed her for allegedly ignoring Delhi's streets for the last four years.
