Lok Sabha elections: Amit Shah to launch nationwide bike rally
Ahead of the much-anticipated general elections to be held in April-May, BJP President Amit Shah will kick off the poll campaign on Saturday from Madhya Pradesh's Umaria district. Shah will green flag a nationwide bike rally from the state. In a statement, the saffron party said over 1 crore workers will reach out to people to highlight the achievements of the Narendra Modi government.
Rally in MP is organized by BJYM
The bike rally is organized by the state unit of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM). Abhilash Pandey, BJYM state president, said more than 5,000 members of the party's youth wing will attend the rally which is titled "Vijay Sankalp 2019". "Similar rallies will also be flagged off by the party leaders in all 52 districts across the state," Pandey told TOI.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan to also attend the event
Pandey added the rally will be kicked off at 11 AM in the presence of senior party leaders. BJP's state chief Rakesh Singh, former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and leader of opposition in assembly Gopal Bhargava will attend the event at Amar Shaheed Stadium. Shah's visit to tribal-dominated Umaria district is aimed at mobilizing grass root workers in small towns and tribal villages.
UP, Bihar, Karnataka, and other states to witness rally too
The bike rally will take place in 3,500 locations across the country. BJP workers in states including Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Kerala, will participate in the rally.
Further, PM Modi will visit MP on March 5
Days after the mega rally, PM Modi is also expected to visit MP. He is scheduled to address a rally in Dhar district on March 5. According to TOI, PM Modi was supposed to address two rallies in Hoshangabad and Dhar on February 15 and 16 respectively. However, he canceled them after the heinous Pulwama attack, in which 40 soldiers were martyred.
Meanwhile, CEC has confirmed schedule of elections won't change
After the Pulwama attack, tensions between India and Pakistan reached new heights. While the mood of the nation cast doubt on the upcoming elections, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora on Friday clarified the polls will be held on time. Arora said as per new notification candidates will also have to give details of their properties abroad, along with the assets in the country.
