Amit Shah to discuss BNS implementation with Northeast CMs
What's the story
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will hold a meeting today with the Chief Ministers of the Northeastern states.
The main agenda of the meeting is to review the implementation of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in the states. The law has replaced the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Ahead of the meeting, Shah spent Saturday night in Mizoram and attended an Assam Rifles event.
Conference address
Shah attends ABSU conference in Kokrajhar
Shah will visit Kokrajhar today where he will address the 57th annual conference of the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU). The ABSU was a signatory to the historic Bodo Peace Accord signed five years ago.
He will then arrive in Guwahati where he will chair discussions with CMs from Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura as well as Nagaland and Sikkim.
Uncertain representation
Manipur's representation in question amid President's rule
It is unclear how Manipur will be represented at the upcoming meeting, given the state's ongoing President's rule. This comes after CM N Biren Singh resigned last month.
Every state will present an update on their progress regarding the implementation of BNS at the meeting.
Shah is expected to wrap up his trip to the Northeast later tonight before leaving for New Delhi.
