Shah responds to opposition's 'BJP plans to amend Constitution' charge
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has dismissed allegations from the opposition that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) plans to amend the Constitution if it secures over 400 Lok Sabha seats. In an interview with ANI, Shah stated, "We have had the mandate to change the Constitution for the last 10 years, but we never did that." He further clarified that the party's goal of winning more than 400 seats is aimed at bringing political stability to India.
Shah outlines BJP's goals for winning majority seats
The home minister added that securing a majority would enable them to protect India's borders, elevate India as the third-largest economy globally, and ensure benefits reach those still living in poverty. "We want 400 seats because clean water is yet to reach every household...We want 400 seats because we want to provide free treatment of up to ₹ 5 lakh to every senior citizen aged above 70 years of age," he said.
Shah responds to Rahul Gandhi's accusations
Shah's comments were in response to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's statement accusing a political party of promising to dismantle the Constitution if they won the elections. Gandhi had said, "For the first time, a political party has said that if they come to power, they will be destroying the Constitution." However, Shah refuted these claims and highlighted the BJP's track record of fulfilling its promises such as the abrogation of Article 370 and initiating construction of the Ram Temple.
Shah highlights BJP's achievements and future goals
When questioned about the BJP's '400 Paar' slogan, Shah clarified that there was little difference between 400 Paar and 272 and that the BJP simply seeks expansion. "We never needed 400 seats for a big step...can do it now. Won't anyone try to expand their work; won't BJP expand itself?" Shah said. He further expressed confidence in winning the Lok Sabha polls with a full majority and stressed that people support Prime Minister Narendra Modi to form a stable government.
