What's the story

For more than a decade, Uttar Pradesh's Amethi had an absent parliamentarian- Rahul Gandhi. The Gandhi scion treated Amethi as his private property and failed to do his duties as an MP. After years, the citizens finally realized how they were cheated and voted him out. He was succeeded by BJP's Smriti Irani, who is taking steps to show she is different from Rahul, in more ways than one.

House

Amethi's 'favorite' MP Rahul never build a house there

It might come as a surprise but despite "governing" Amethi from 2004 to 2019, Rahul didn't care to build his house there. This explains why he remained absent from his constituency and mostly visited when he wanted votes. In sharp contrast with Rahul, Smriti, who is handling Women and Child Development and Textiles ministries, has decided to build her house in the constituency.

Announcement

Doors of my house will always remain open: Smriti

Smriti made the announcement on Saturday during the inauguration of Rs. 30-crore road project. The event was attended by Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya too. Reportedly, Smriti has identified a plot in Gauriganj area. The Union Minister, who emerged as a giant-killer, said Amethi is her permanent home now and doors of her house will always remain open.

Smriti promised to work for everyone

"I am thankful to you for electing a woman from a simple family over a 'naamdaar'. I understand there are some four lakh people who voted for Congress. They must not worry about benefiting from welfare schemes like Ujjwala, PMAY, and toilets under Swachh Bharat," Smriti said.

Visit

Meanwhile, Smriti also met slain aide's family members

Smriti also visited Baraulia village and met the family members of her slain aide Surendra Singh. He was murdered just two days after Smriti won elections. The actor-turned-politician was accompanied by Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. Notably, Baraulia village was adopted by Sawant's predecessor Manohar Parrikar. Sawant came all the way to UP because of the emotional bond he shared with Parrikar.
