Amanatullah Khan: News

Amanatullah Khan is an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) politician from Delhi. As of 2021, he is a member of the Delhi Legislative Assembly from the Okhla constituency and the Chairman of the Delhi Waqf Board. Khan was born in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, but is politically active in Delhi. He first contested elections in the 2013 Delhi Assembly polls from the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) but lost miserably. He then switched to AAP and won two successive legislative assembly elections in 2015 and 2020 from Okhla by defeating BJP's Braham Singh on both occasions. Khan has been embroiled in numerous controversies over the years. He was arrested twice in 2016 for assaulting and threatening women and suspended from AAP in 2017 for attacking fellow party member Kumar Vishwas. A case was filed against him for allegedly assaulting Delhi Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash in 2018. In 2021, Khan threatened the Dasna Devi Temple head priest Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati with beheading, for which an FIR was lodged against him.
