Om Prakash Rawat to be new Chief Election Commissioner
According to a report by ANI, election commissioner Om Prakash Rawat is set to take over as the Chief Election Commissioner on 23rd January. The 64-year-old IAS officer will replace Achal Kumar Joti, the incumbent Chief Election Commissioner. Former finance secretary Ashok Lewasa will take over as the new election commissioner.
Om Prakash Rawat has impressive credentials
Om Prakash took charge as the election commissioner in August 2015. He had previously held various offices in both the central and state governments. In May 1994, he was also deputed to South Africa to oversee the first post-apartheid elections there as the United Nations' election observer.
