Ajit Pawar: News

Ajit Anantrao Pawar is a senior politician of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) from Maharashtra and the nephew of party chief Sharad Pawar. As of 2021, he is the Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Finance in Maharashtra's Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government. Pawar marked his entry into politics by winning a cooperative sugar body's poll in the 1980s. Since his first time in 1991, Pawar has been an MLA in the Maharashtra State Assembly from the Baramati constituency and has often held multiple portfolios, including the post of Deputy CM. He has served Maharashtra in his capacity as the Minister of State for Agriculture and Power and Minister of Water Resources, among others. In the past years, many controversies have cropped up around the NCP leader, ranging from serious corruption allegations to backlash on his controversial remarks. In 2021, Pawar was also under the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) scanner for alleged corruption and money laundering offenses in the Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank (MSCB) scam.
